Are you suffering for their sins? Are you suffering for their sins? Carrying their cross?
Rehoboam was at crossroads, his name signified expansion and increase, but he was facing reduction and loss. He was suffering for the evils of his father Solomon. Solomon had married many strange wives, who led him into idol worship and away from the true God. God pronounced a judgment of loss on Solomon to be fulfilled when His son began to reign. In other words, the perpetrator of evil escaped (somewhat) and his son bore the brunt of his father’s sin.
When we suffer or go through challenges, we need to ask, is this because of a trial, temptation, my sin or the sins of others.
Thousands of people died in Israel because of the sin of their King David, for conducting a census he should not have conducted. Famine overtook the land because of the errors of King Saul.
A gentleman discovered he was always stinking, he had a body odor that made him repulsive to people. On finding out during prayers, it was revealed that his grandfather had stolen a bicycle from someone who cursed his father’s children. He went ahead to make restitutions by purchasing a bicycle and returning it to that family and the body odor disappeared.
In each case there was a solution. You need to find out if persistent problems are from the sins of others or ancestral curses and deal with them as required.
5You shall not bow down yourself to them or serve them; for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me,(A)
6But showing mercy and steadfast love to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments. Exodus 20:5-6
You should not suffer for the sins of others. There has been a change in the law for your sake:
"Do you need to ask, 'So why does the child not share the guilt of the parent?'
"Isn't it plain? It's because the child did what is fair and right. Since the child was careful to do what is lawful and right, the child will live truly and well. The soul that sins is the soul that dies. The child does not share the guilt of the parent, nor the parent the guilt of the child. If you live upright and well, you get the credit; if you live a wicked life, you're guilty as charged. Ezekiel 18:19-20
For as many as are suffering for other people’s sins and errors; may unnecessary suffering come to an end in your life, family, ministry and destiny; in Jesus mighty name! May the Lord open your eyes of understanding and make a way of escape for you; in Jesus’ victorious name! Amen!!
Peace!
