Shallum: Retribution and Significance

Shallum the son of Jabesh began to reign in the thirty-ninth year of Uzziah king of Judah, and he reigned one month in Samaria. 2 Kings 15:13

Retribution can destroy significance. Shallum could not reign in the palace, he could not also reign in Samaria - a watch mountain or watch tower. A watch tower is a place of significance, revelations, recognition and communication with God. May retribution not destroy your significance in Jesus mighty name.

Restitution, prayers and fasting can change retribution to recognition and restoration.

In His love, God created you and allowed you to be alive at this time. How are you using your time? Shallum had 30 days, he used it wickedly. How are you using the time you have been given?

You are significant by birth and calling. If you have given your heart and life over to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, you are significant. He has given you significant opportunity to occupy till He comes. How are you using the times He has given you?

David cried 'My times are in your hand'. Job declared concerning the time he was given: If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.(Job 14:14)

Shallum reigned for one month, approximately 30 days. His name means retribution - just payment. He received just payment for His actions.

John Wooden opined "If you don't have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over? and Martin Luther King Jr. stated emphatically that "The time is always right to do what is right.”

Jesus began His earthly ministry at the age of 30. 30 represents a new beginning of limitless opportunities for greatness, if used properly. Shallum was cut off at the 30th point. When he would have reigned, retribution did not allow him to reign and be celebrated. If there is un-confessed sin, confess and ask for forgiveness, so the Prince of Peace can reign supremely in your life and destiny.

We reap what we sow. It is only the mercy of God, through forgiveness in Jesus that can save us from retribution for sins and errors committed. If there is something you have done, which is not right and the Holy Spirit keeps bringing it back to your mind, you may need to do something about it. You may need to restitute. Go to the person you have offended and ask for forgiveness, if possible. Depending on how complex the issue is, you may need counsel. With good advice make war. In the multitude of counsel there is safety.

At every point it is important to ‘prepare to meet your God’, so that when you do, you will not be ashamed at the encounter (1 John 2:28).

30 is a point of prayer. Abraham pleaded for 30 righteous person in Sodom, His appeal was accepted. We should feel free to cry out to God concerning areas of pain in our lives, knowing assuredly that He would hear and answer us. This is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us, and we know that if He hears us, we will receive the petitions that we have asked of Him (1 John 5:14-15). And whatever we ask we receive from Him because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight (1 John 3:22)

30 is an empowerment to deliver the helpless. In Jeremiah 38:10, 30 men delivered Jeremiah from the pit and sinking sand. You can be used of God, and God wants to use you to deliver others from the pit.

May God use you greatly; may your life count, and may significance be your portion as you escape retribution by restitution and mercy in Jesus mighty name! Amen and Amen and Amen!

Peace!
