Pursue and Overtake Your Enemies Prayers 1. My stolen and lost virtues, be restored to me now by the power in the blood of Jesus. 2. I receive the power to pursue and overtake my enemies in the name of Jesus.
It is my prayer that: You will fully recover your stolen blessings in Jesus’ name. The grace and divine empowerment to pursue and overtake God will give to you in Jesus’ name.
Text: Psalm 18:37 I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
1 Samuel 30 David’s Conflict with the Amalekites 1Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, 2and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way. 3So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. 4Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. 5And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive. 6Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was [a]grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 7Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. 8So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.” 9So David went, he and the six hundred men who were with him, and came to the Brook Besor, where those stayed who were left behind. 10But David pursued, he and four hundred men; for two hundred stayed behind, who were so weary that they could not cross the Brook Besor. 11Then they found an Egyptian in the field, and brought him to David; and they gave him bread and he ate, and they let him drink water. 12And they gave him a piece of a cake of figs and two clusters of raisins. So when he had eaten, his strength came back to him; for he had eaten no bread nor drunk water for three days and three nights. 13Then David said to him, “To whom do you belong, and where are you from?” And he said, “I am a young man from Egypt, servant of an Amalekite; and my master left me behind, because three days ago I fell sick. 14We made an invasion of the southern area of the Cherethites, in the territory which belongs to Judah, and of the southern area of Caleb; and we burned Ziklag with fire.” 15And David said to him, “Can you take me down to this troop?” So he said, “Swear to me by God that you will neither kill me nor deliver me into the hands of my master, and I will take you down to this troop.” 16And when he had brought him down, there they were, spread out over all the land, eating and drinking and dancing, because of all the great spoil which they had taken from the land of the Philistines and from the land of Judah. 17Then David attacked them from twilight until the evening of the next day. Not a man of them escaped, except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled. 18So David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away, and David rescued his two wives. 19And nothing of theirs was lacking, either small or great, sons or daughters, spoil or anything which they had taken from them; David recovered all. 20Then David took all the flocks and herds they had driven before those other livestock, and said, “This is David’s spoil.”
What does it mean to Pursue? Pursue is: · to go after · to aim · to target · to make plans to acquire · to execute the plans to acquire · to lay hold on your promised possession · to lay hold on the glorious future · to experience a transformation from expectation to realization.
What does it mean to Overtake? To overtake is: · to move ahead · to move from stagnancy to progress · to move from being slow to being fast · to put your life in fast forward · to move ahead of those who had surpassed you.
What does it mean to recover? To recover is: · to reacquire what you had lost · to obtain what had been lost from your grip · to experience a revival of dead hope and aspirations · to be given a second chance.
What is the source of power to pursue and overtake? · Thankfully the source of the power to pursue is the same as the source of the power to overtake and recover - Jesus Christ. · All power in heaven and on earth has been given to Him (Matthew 28:18). · The Lord gives His commandments upon the earth, and His word runs very swiftly (Psalm 147:15). · He spoke and it was done. He commanded and it stood fast (Psalm 33:9) · His power rules over the earth (Psalm 103:19) · This power prevents weeping, irrecoverable loss, and failure from which you cannot recover from.
To pursue is an active term. It is not a passive activity. It involves exerting energy active and passion. Ask athletes who run to overtake and acquire.
Lessons from the text on how to successfully pursue and overtake 1. Be ready to strengthen yourself in the Lord: Days of adversity, loss, weeping, unexpected, troubling news visit people from time to time. The Bible states in Job 5:7 that “For man is born for trouble, [As naturally] as sparks fly upward. This implies that mankind is born into trouble, born for misery or headed into trouble. Job 14:1 further state that Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. This is however not the end of the story. We need not be overwhelmed by the trouble. We can maintain a foundation in God that would be unshakeable by any trouble that comes our way and overcome the trouble. This is through closeness to God to teach us the way of escape from the trouble and remaining strong through the trouble through strengthening from the word of God. There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it (1 Corinthians 10:13). By His strength you can always declare: · The Lord is my light and my salvation. I will be saved from this trouble and every difficult situation that come my way. · God is the God of my salvation; I will be saved from every trouble and difficult situation. · I will not die; I will live to declare the works of God in the land of the living. This problem or difficult situation will not kill me, the problem will die instead. · I will be head; I will never be the tail. This problem will not oppress or overcome me. I overcome the problem and arise and shine. Etc.
2. Seek the Lord for next steps. Listen to Him and Follow His Guidance; For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. (Romans 8:14) God will lead His people. Follow His leading. I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. (Psalm 85:8) Let Him guide you and lead you in that situation and you will come out well.
3. Don’t despise or ignore people when they need your help: The servant of the Amalekite had served him, possibly for a long time. Unfortunately, the servant fell sick and needed his master’s help. The master refused to help him but abandoned him to die when he needed help most. The person he refused to help led to his destruction and caused him to lose everything he had ever gained in life. If he had helped his servant by caring for him and taken him along, the servant would have been unable to help those after him catch up with him. Don’t despise or refuse to help people, even when you think they are unable to help you or repay you for your good. Your sacrifice may well save your life and protect you and yours.
4. Help the people that come your way as best as you can. David and his men saw the servant of the Amalekite sick and dying by the way. They could have ignored him and thought “of what use is a dying man to us”. However, in the midst of their pain, they stopped to help the sick and dying man, gave him food and drink from their own resources, even when they did not know he could be of use to them. That help they rendered was what led them to where their wives and children were. That little help also delivered to them great spoil/rewards of battle. Don’t despise or ignore those who you can help on your way. It may be God’s way of planting the key to your breakthroughs on your way. The Bible states in Ecclesiastes 11:6 that: Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle with your hands in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening planting will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both alike will be good.
5. God is the source of the power to overtake your enemies. It is not enough to pursue. You need to be able to surpass, overtake/ambush, and recover what had been stolen from you. A brother whenever he has a particular type of dream, by the time he wakes up and goes for an interview he would be rejected, if he was already working, would be fired. He came for prayers and God took control of the situation. God is the source of all power. Elijah on foot overtook the king who was riding on a chariot because the hand of God was upon His life. Elijah ran for about 15 miles (over 20 kilometres) from the plains to the entrance of Jezreel. Chariots may typically run at between 35 to 40 miles per hour (approximately 60 kilometres per hour). This means Elijah performed a supernatural feat because the hand of God was upon Him. When the hand of God is upon your life, you will easily outrun your enemies and recover your precious possessions.
What to do to be able to successfully pursue and overtake: · Apart from the points above, be saved by accepting Jesus Christ into your life as Lord and Savior · Be prayerful · Study and meditate on God’s word · Declare the word of God · Listen to God and obey Him completely

4. I will not be abducted, caged, or arrested by the enemy in the name of Jesus.
5. Every evil planned for me by the enemy will backfire against them in Jesus’ name.
6. Let the enemy fall into the pit they have dug for me and let every net they have spread for me catch their own feet in Jesus’ name.
7. I am delivered from every cage of the enemy, let the cage catch the enemy themselves in Jesus’ name.
8. I receive divine power to pursue and overtake all my enemies and recover all my possessions in the name of Jesus.
9. I receive healing and deliverance from every sickness and difficult situation in Jesus’ name.
10.Father lay your hand of healing and deliverance on our loved ones with special needs in Jesus’ name.
11.My life and family are shielded with the blood of Jesus against every attack from the kingdom of darkness in Jesus’ name.
12.I receive the anointing of ease in my endeavors in Jesus’ name.
